This is a Notable Operational milestone.
This was the first flight of the Rotor Systems Research Aircraft (RSRA) with the main rotor removed with all lift in forward flight coming from the wing. The tail rotor was still fitted for directional control. The flight took place at the NASA Dryden Flight Research Facility, Edwards AFB, CA, USA. The pilots were NASA Ames Test Pilot G. Warren Hall and US Army Major Patrick Morris.
The aircraft had previously flown in a compound configuration.
